Presidential candidate should have political background: Former PM Khanal

MORANG, Feb 11: Senior leader of the CPN (Unified Socialist) and former Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal has said that the presidential candidate should have a political background. "Independent person cannot retain the glory of the presidential post," he argued while talking to media-persons at the Biratnagar Airport on Saturday.

MORANG, Feb 11: Senior leader of the CPN (Unified Socialist) and former Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal has said that the presidential candidate should have a political background. "Independent person cannot retain the glory of the presidential post," he argued while talking to media-persons at the Biratnagar Airport on Saturday. 


There could be consensus if a person from a political background is announced the presidential candidate in line with the standards envisioned in the constitution, he reiterated.

In response to a query whether his party was fielding a candidate for the coveted position, senior leader Khanal said the party had not thought much about it. He also said the party would not join the incumbent government. 


Khanal said that discussion is currently underway to form a front in a bid to take the country towards socialist state by uniting all powers favoring socialism.
