KATHMANDU, Jan 30: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has paid tributes to all known and unknown martyrs including Shukraraj Shastri, Dharmabhakt Mathema, Dasharath Chand, Gangalal Shrestha, who laid down their precious lives for the protection of civil liberties, democracy and nationalism on the occasion of National Martyrs’ Day, 2079.
She issued a message today on the occasion of Martyr's Day and mentioned that Martyr's Day is a special day to remember the great martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country and the people.
Martyrs Week commences, martyr Shukraraj remembered
Martyrs' Day is celebrated every year on Magh 16 (30th of January this year) to pay respect to the brave heroes who sacrificed their lives in the movements against autocratic and dictatorial regimes in various periods of history to make the Nepali people free and sovereign citizens.
President Bhandari stated that giving one's life for the betterment of the people and the country is considered a form of martyrdom. She added that today serves as a reminder of the ultimate sacrifices made by these heroes. Our current freedoms and civil liberties are the result of the sacrifices made by the martyrs.
Therefore, she mentioned that progressing toward fulfilling the aspirations of sustainable peace, good governance, development and prosperity through the federal democratic republican governance system achieved through the sacrifices of the martyrs is a true tribute to them.
President Bhandari expressed her hope that this day will inspire everyone to fulfill their role with sincerity to realize the dream of martyrs to build a just, equitable, civilized and cultured society as well as a prosperous nation.
