KATHMANDU, Feb 28: The Election Commission is submitting the results of the National Assembly election to President Bidhya Devi Bhandari today at 11 AM, Office of the President said.
The EC will submit names of 56 candidates to the President. The National Assembly will house 59 candidates, three of which will be selected by the government. Of the total National Assembly members, each political party will have to set aside 33% seat to female candidates.
“As female candidates have already been selected, there won’t be a problem to submit results to the President,” Nawaraj Dhakal, spokesperson of the Commission said adding that as it was up to the government to decide on remaining three candidates, the Commission would not interfere in the decision.
NC demands prez correct upper house member picks
The President is likely to discuss over Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s unilateral pick of three candidates from the government’s side.
On Friday, Deuba had recommended Krishna Prasad Paudel, Gopal Basnet and Chandani Joshi as the government’s pick for the National Assembly during a cabinet meeting. However, the President was unsatisfied as the Prime Minister took the decision without consultation with other political parties.
As the Left Alliance will soon form a government, Nepali Congress’s party chair rushed to take a unilateral decision to recommend democratic representatives in the National Assembly. “There are chances that the President might not endorse the Prime Minister’s recommendations. Instead, she is likely to hold necessary consultations,” a source said.
