Prince Charles will walk Meghan Markle down the aisle at tomorrow's Royal Wedding after her dad Thomas pulled out of the ceremony, Kensington Palace announced today.
The US actress' dad Thomas Markle officially pulled out of the big day yesterday following a turbulent week which threw the wedding plans into chaos.
Meghan's mum Doria Ragland had largely been tipped to walk the bride down the aisle at St George's Chapel tomorrow, but Kensington Palace today revealed it would instead be her future father-in-law.
The must follow rules of royal wedding in England
The statement from Kensington Palace said: "Ms Meghan Markle has asked His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to accompany her down the aisle of the Quire of St George's Chapel on her Wedding Day.
"The Prince of Wales is pleased to be able to welcome Ms Markle to the Royal Family in this way."
Meghan will still walk about half the aisle by herself, with Charles, who himself married wife Camilla at tomorrow's wedding venue, waiting further down to escort her from the end of the Nave to the altar.
Royal commentators were torn over the decision, with some saying it is an "honour" for the Prince Charles - but others describing it as a "missed opportunity" for mum Doria.
The announcement was made by Kensington Palace this morning.
