KATHAMDNU, Oct 10: The private sector of the country has condemned the murder of Sarad Kumar Gauchan, chairman of Federation of Contractors Association of Nepal (FCAN).

Issuing a press statement on Monday, the FCAN raised serious concerns over the law and order situation of the capital city.

The FCAN said that this incident showed serious flaws in capital city’s security situation. Chairman Gauchan was shot to death by an unknown group while he was on the way to FCAN office from his residence in New Baneshwor, Monday afternoon.

He was rushed to Civil Service Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment. Gauchan, 57, is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters.

According to the FCAN statement, Gauchan’s body will be kept at the FCAN office on Tuesday for visitors to pay condolences.

Likewise, issuing a statement on Monday, the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) demanded with the government to take strong action against the culprits.  Expressing condolence toward Gauchan’s family, the FNCCI strongly condemned the murder.

The FNCCI said that the private sector, the major taxpayer of the country, felt insecure after this incident.

The federation claimed that the incident occurred as a result of the government’s negligence toward public security. It demanded that the government booked the culprits immediately to let the citizens feel secure within the country.

Similarly, the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) issued a statement on Monday expressing grief over Gauchan’s death. While the country was heading toward stability and the industrial sector was getting national priority, an entrepreneur’s murder on a busy street has scared all industrialists and entrepreneurs, the statement said.

Such inhumane activity had a negative impact on the investment environment of the country, the CNI said in the statement. The CNI demanded that the government investigated the incident, indentified the culprits, and took strong action against them without delay.
