Probe committees formed to investigate Teku, Sankhuwasabha incidents

KATHMANDU, Aug 10: The government has formed a probe committee to investigate the alleged incident of police using excessive force against those staging a sit-in protest at Kathmandu Police Range, Teku, on July 31. The protest was held against the controversial statements given by an advocate.

KATHMANDU, Aug 10: The government has formed a probe committee to investigate the alleged incident of police using excessive force against those staging a sit-in protest at Kathmandu Police Range, Teku, on July 31. The protest was held against the controversial statements given by an advocate. 


Spokesperson at the Home Ministry, Joint Secretary Narayan Prasad Bhattarai shared that the five-member probe committee was formed under coordination of Under-Secretary at the Ministry, Ram Bahadur Shahi, on Wednesday.

The probe committee has been asked to submit its report within 10 days after carrying out investigation into the incident. Representatives of the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, Kathmandu Valley Police Office and National Investigation Department are the members of the committee. 


Similarly, another five-member probe committee has been formed to investigate the death of two inmates in Sankhuwasabha jail—Binod Tolangi and Akash Balami aka Bikas Shrestha on Wednesday itself, added Bhattarai. 


They died following the scuffle between inmates in the prison on Wednesday. 


The probe committee was formed under coordination of Director at the Department of Prison Management, Kamal Prasad Pandey where representatives of Nepal Police, National Investigation Department and District Administration Office, Sankhuwasabha, are the members.
