KATHMANDU, May 25: Local administrations in the Kathmandu Valley have decided to further extend the ongoing prohibitory order by a week more to break the chain of COVID-19 infection.
A meeting of the chief district officers (CDOs) of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur made a decision to extend the prohibitory orders by one week as the orders enforced four weeks ago have yet to substantially reduce the rate of COVID-19 infection in the Kathmandu Valley. With this decision, the prohibitory orders will remain in place until June 3 midnight, according to the CDO of Bhaktapur district, Prem Prasad Bhattarai.
Prohibitory orders in Kathmandu Valley extended till August 11
Local administration offices in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur had decided to enforce prohibitory orders on April 29 amid rising cases of COVID-19. Although the prohibitory orders were enforced initially for 15 days, the local administrations had later further extended the period of the orders.
According to CDO Bhattarai, the meeting on Tuesday also decided to further tighten the prohibitory measures as the rate of COVID-19 infection did not see any substantial reduction even after the enforcement of the prohibitory orders. Grocery shops and departmental stores are also barred from opening during the period."Only those selling medicine, milk, vegetables and food items will be allowed to open till 9AM," said CDO Bhattarai.
