KATHMANDU, Dec 5: Secretariat meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) held on Saturday afternoon has decided to take separate proposals presented earlier by chairmen duo KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal to the Standing Committee meeting scheduled for Sunday for further discussions.
NCP Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha said the Secretariat meeting on Saturday concluded with a decision to further hold discussions on the political papers presented by both Oli and Dahal in the Standing Committee.
All eyes on crucial NCP meeting today
“Today’s meeting decided to call the prescheduled Standing Committee meeting of the party for 1 pm tomorrow [Sunday]. During the meeting, we will hold discussions about the disputes seen lately in the party,” said party spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha.
Although Prime Minister K P Oli had earlier warned of boycotting the meeting if the political paper presented by Executive Chairman Dahal was not withdrawn, Prime Minister Oli also participated in the Secretariat meeting on Saturday.
Sources said Prime Minister Oli, who is also the chairman of the NCP, agreed to participate in the meeting after the two chairmen held one on one meeting to resolve their differences just before the Secretariat meeting. The two leaders had not talked to each other for the past 25 days.
Earlier, leaders close to Prime Minister Oli had held a series of meetings with Executive Chairman Dahal. President Bidya Devi Bhandari had also taken the initiative to resolve the ongoing rift between the two top leaders within the NCP, holding one on one meetings with both the leaders.
Prime Minister Oli had chosen to skip the Secretariat meeting held on Tuesday. The Secretariat meeting was put off till Saturday due to Oli's absence from the meeting.
