KAILALI, March 26: Prosperous Tarai-Madhes Irrigation Special Program has been launched across five districts including Kailali and Kanchanpur in Sudurpaschim Province. The irrigation special program was begun at Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolis, Lamki Chuha, and Godawari municipalities in Kailali, alongside Krishnapur, Punarbas Municipality, and Laljhadi Rural Municipality in Kanchanpur.

According to engineer Salik Bhusal, information officer at the Mahakali Irrigation Management Office, the irrigation is managed with the construction of deep tube wells.

Surkhet of Karnali Province, as well as Banke and Bardiya of Lumbini Province, have also implemented comparable amenities through the special program.

In the current fiscal year, 2080/81, the objective is to provide irrigation to 40 hectares of land across five districts, including Kanchanpur. To facilitate this goal, Rs 70 million has been allocated for implementation.

Engineer Bhusal, however, complained that the budget for the program was insufficient. He said that the scheme aims to provide irrigation throughout the year.

The installation of a deep tube well costs nearly Rs 8.5 million. After the installation, applications will be sought from farmers who want the service.

The farmers will be charged Rs 500 for the irrigation per hectare.
