Protesters clash with police over suspicious death of a woman

MAHOTTARI, April 24: Mahottari police fired aerial shots to control the crowd in the district after clashes ensued between the protesters and police over the death of a local woman under suspicious circumstances.

MAHOTTARI, April 24: Mahottari police fired aerial shots to control the crowd in the district after clashes ensued between the protesters and police over the death of a local woman under suspicious circumstances.


Police Inspector of the District Police Office, Mahottari Saroj Rai said that five policemen were injured due to pelting of stones by the locals who were protesting against the police claiming that the police did not show proactive measures to give justice to the victim.

A few days ago, the locals protested over the alleged suicide of 25-year-old Aarti Devi, a resident of Malhaniya Pokhari, Gaushala Municipality-4.


The victims family and kin started the protest alleging that the woman did not commit suicide and that she was murdered. Preliminary report suggest that the woman consumed poison


However, Inspector Rai informed Republica that the police have taken under control some of the family members of the woman for investigation suspecting foul play. 


Currently, negotiations are going on between the people's representatives of Gaushala Municipality, the police and the victim’s family. According to the Mahottari police, two personnel of Nepal Police and three Armed Police Force personnel were injured while bringing the situation under control.
