NUWAKOT, Dec 28: The quake-stricken and rights activists here launched a people's pressure campaign to press the concerned authorities to ramp up the post-quake reconstruction campaign.

A mass demonstration was taken out from Battar on Tuesday which later converged into a mass meeting at Bidur.

The campaign dubbed 'People's Caravan' has more than 20 organizations of the district as its constituents. The participants in the pressure campaign headed by Human Rights Alliance have accused the political parties of focusing on state power and thereby taking pace of the much-needed resettlement and reconstruction works.

Human Rights Alliance central Chairman, Min Bahadur Shahi, addressed the programme and said the state has taken over the responsibility of reconstructing the damaged and destroyed infrastructure and it should not backtrack from it now under any pretext. The human rights activists and quake-stricken held placards with signs in Nepali and translated as 'Sustainable Reconstruction our Campaign' and 'Let Women Participate in Reconstruction'.

The activists also submitted a memorandum to the Chief District Officer with a six-point demand including a reminder to the state of its responsibility. The memo was presented to Assistant Chief District Officer, Kamal Raj Dhakal, with demand for Rs 500,000 grant assistance for each of the families and concessional loan. RSS
