KATHMANDU, Jan 14: Lawmaker of the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) Gagan Thapa said that the provision to remove the office bearers of the university through 51 per cent votes would have an adverse impact on the university's autonomy.
MP Thapa said this while participating on a debate on amendments to the Some Nepal Acts in the House of Representatives' Education and Health Committee.

He said the provision allows the government to remove any officer at any time if s/he fails to comply with any directive given by the government or the ministry which will ultimately paralyse the university's autonomy. Speaking further, he lobbied for at least two-third majority votes for relieving any office bearers in the universities. "It doesn't mean that the decision of the house panel should be boycotted, however, this is sure to raise a question mark on the university's dignity."
On Thursday, the committee passed the amendment to the Act with the provision of removing the official from the university through 51 per cent votes.
