Rains disrupt flights at TIA

KATHMANDU, May 4: Flights at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) have been disrupted today by adverse weather.

KATHMANDU, May 4: Flights at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) have been disrupted today by adverse weather. 


According to the TIA office, domestic as well as international flights have been affected due to low visibility issues. TIA Spokesperson Teknath Niraula said," TIA at the moment allows the operations of the  instrument flight rules (IFR)-supported flights, owing to the visibility issue."

Some flights have been delayed and some international flights - Sri Lankan Airlines and the Thai Smile Airways - observed holding for some time.  Services to mountainous destinations such as Lukla and Simikot have remained halted. Flights to other destinations in rural districts have been slightly affected.  


At present, rain is taking place in various parts of the country including in Kathmandu due to the impact of the Westerly and local winds, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.
