KATMANDU, August 19: Veteran leader Pashupati Shumshere Rana, who has recently formed Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Democratic), has moved the Supreme Court (SC) seeking his party's registration with the Election Commission (EC).
Rana moved the court two days before expiry of the deadline given by the election body to back his application with 40 percent support from the total central committee members and lawmakers of the mother party. Dismayed with RPP Chairman Kamal Thapa's working style, Rana had announced new party and subsequently applied at the EC for its registration.

According to EC officials, Rana had failed to garner support of 40 percent central members of the 156-member central committee although he managed the support of required lawmakers.
Initially, Rana had submitted the name list of 40 percent lawmakers and central committee members but some signatures were found to have been forged during verification process, according to the EC officials.
Later, Rana was asked to verify the signatures of 40 percent central committee members within Sunday. "We had given him to garner support of 40 percent central committee members within Sunday. But we don't know why he moved the court," said an election officer privy to the issue.
