KATHMANDU, Aug 13: Metropolitan Police Circle Office, Lainchaur on Friday said that the man arrested on charge of attempting to rape a sixteen-year old girl in a Thamel-based hotel room is originally from Sudan but had been working in Saudi Arabia.

Soon after the arrest on Tuesday, the fifty-four-year-old man identified as Ibrahim Hasan Siddique had claimed himself that he was from Saudi Arabia but it was proved wrong during investigation.

"He showed documents that said he was from Saudi Arabia but after we seize his passport, it was found out that he was from Sudan," DSP Somendra Singh Rathod, chief of the Metropolitan Police Circle Office, said.

The man was arrested after the girl called police by dialing 100 seeking for help. The accused man with the help of Dipak Majhi, a staff of Hotel Taima, had lured the girl to his hotel room. In return, the girl was manhandled as she refused to have sex with him, according to the police.

Police said that the accused man had visited Nepal for interviewing migrant workers seeking jobs in Gulf countries. Police said they have arranged an interpreter but the man has been refusing to record his statement and cooperate for further investigation.

The Kathmandu District Court on Wednesday had remanded him to custody for further investigation. Police have already filed case under human trafficking and are preparing to file another case related to attempted rape against the foreigner.
