KATHMANDU, Dec 21: Tribhuwan Army Club’s Narendra Rawal and Kanchhi Maya Koju of Armed Police Force have won the title of Kathmandu Marathon in men’s and women’s category respectively.
In the 13th edition of the marathon held in the capital on Saturday, Army’s Narendra finished the marathon in 2hours, 33 minutes and 10 seconds to bag the title for the first time. He said that he was overjoyed on winning the marathon. “I don’t have enough idea about running a marathon. Moreover, I have very normal shoes,” said he adding, “It was very difficult to run along as the route was not clear and volunteers too were not much aware of it.”
Kanchi Maya, on the other hand, clocked 2 hours, 57 minutes and 27 seconds. With this, she has won the title for three consecutive years.
Army’s Bed Bahadur Sunuwar completed the race in 2 hours, 34 minutes and 20 seconds to be the first runner up in men’s marathon while another army man Gyan Prasad finished third in the race with a timing of 2 hours, 34 minutes and 45 seconds.

In women’s category, Army’s Sarita Basi stood second finishing in 3 hours, 19 minutes and 7 seconds. Similarly, Nirjala Tamrakar finished third. She clocked the race in 3 hours 45 minutes and 47 seconds.
The winner was awarded Rs 50,000 while the first runner up got Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000 was provided with Rs 15,000.
Likewise, Nepal Army’s Rajan Roakaya won half marathon in men’s category. Hari Kumar Rimal and Ramji Basnet both from Army were placed second and third position respectively. In women’s category of half marathon, Army again dominated as its Purna Laxmi Neupane and Sanu Maya Karki secured first and second position respectively. Rekha Bista of Nepal Police stood third in the category.
In both categories of half marathon, the top three were awarded Rs 20,000, Rs 13,000 and Rs 7,000 respectively.
