KATHMANDU, Aug 25: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Wednesday ordered Ministry of Home Affairs and the Nepal Police to form a high-level probe panel to reinvestigate the alleged murder of Ajit Mijar in Kavre district.

Prime Minister Dahal called secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Narayan Gopal Malego, and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Upendra Kanta Aryal to the PM's office and instructed them to form a high-level probe panel to establish the truth behind the murder.

Mijar, a Dalit youth in Paanchkhal of Kavre district, was allegedly murdered by the kin of a Brahmin girl he had married without the consent from the girl's family July 12. A Joint Political Dalit Struggle Committee had repeatedly sought the intervention of different ministries, law enforcement agencies, among others, after they were not satisfied with the probe panel formed under the CDO of Kavre District and the police officials.

“As per the instructions from PM Dahal, the Ministry of Home Affairs has been preparing to form a probe panel under the leadership of a Home Ministry Joint Secretary,” Home Spokesperson Yadav Koirala said. We couldn't form the panel today as the home minister was not present in the Ministry," he said adding.

According to the Dalit Struggle Committee, PM Dahal told the authorities to seriously probe the incident citing the incident as a case of serious human rights violations. They said that the agitation would continue until the alleged perpetrators were brought behind the bars.

Earlier, as per the instruction from Ministry of Home Affairs, Nepal Police had formed a probe panel under the leadership of SSP Pushpa Chandra Ranjit from the Crime Investigation Department of Nepal Police, SP Dibesh Lohani of the Central Investigation Department and DSP Hira Bahadur Pandey of Metropolitan Police Crime Division.
