GORKHA, Dec 18: The local chapters of various political parties have insisted that the company building the 7 MW 'Chepe A' hydropower project, which is being constructed on the River Chepe on the border of Gorkha and Lamjung districts, should resolve the problems seen in the project immediately through negotiations with the consumers.
The local leaders of various parties in Rainas have suggested through a statement to negotiate with the consumer's committee as soon as possible and give a proper solution. Last Saturday, the locals set fire to the office and vehicles and vandalized the office because the company did not work as per the agreement even after repeated talks and discussions. It was agreed that the company will release water 200 meters above the source of the Rainasar irrigation project. Locals say that after the project proceeded with the work contrary to the agreement, preparations were made for peaceful talks between the project and the locals.
It is stated in the statement issued by the parties that the owners of the project stopped the work and even refused to negotiate. After the incident, the company filed a complaint against eight people at the District Police Office, Gorkha. Although the project-affected area is Rainas in Lamjung, the office that was vandalized is in Siranchok Rural Municipality of Gorkha. The parties have protested through a statement saying that the company has tried to sue the locals.
