GULMI, July 27: The Ridi-Rudrabeni road section along the Kaligandaki Corridor in Gulmi district has been obstructed for the last three days.
The road was completely blocked by a landslide with large boulders at Ruru Kshetra Rural Municipality-1 on Saturday afternoon. Although the local authorities are trying to open a track, their efforts have not yielded any results so far.
Landslides blocks Kaligandaki corridor
According to the Sub-Inspector at the Area Police Office in Ridi, Shalik Ram Thapa, a breaker and a loader are being used to break the stones and clear the landslide debris since Sunday morning. “However, heavy rainfall in the region since Monday morning has made it difficult to clear the debris,” said Thapa.
Thapa said the road may come into operation only by Monday evening if the weather allowed them to clear the debris that has obstructed the road.
Disruption of the road section has adversely affected the movement of people and goods in the eastern part of Gulmi and southern part of Baglung district as this is the main road for vehicular movement in Gulmi district as a whole. Hundreds of passengers and a number of vehicles have been left stranded for the past few days due to the obstruction of the road due to landslide debris.
