KATHMANDU, Dec 15: Rival faction leaders within the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) have gathered at the residence of the party’s Executive Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in Khumaltar to discuss the situation emerging after the government move to introduce an ordinance related to the Constitutional Council.
Sources said five of the nine Secretariat members of the NCP have gathered at Dahal’s residence to forge new strategies in the aftermath of the government’s decision to convene a CC meeting by bringing amendment to the procedures of the CC meeting through an ordinance. Sources said the Secretariat members had reached Khumaltar after Dahal called an emergency meeting with the leaders close to him. Senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhala Nath Khanal, Bam Dev Gautam and Narayan Kaji Shrestha are present in the meeting.
Executive Chairman Dahal had earlier asked the government to withdraw the controversial ordinance. He even said that the ordinance had been introduced with an ill-intention.
Sources said the Dahal faction is planning to introduce an agenda of scraping the ordinance during the Standing Committee meeting of the party scheduled for Wednesday. A majority of leaders within the NCP have criticized the prime minister for introducing the ordinance “to serve his vested political interests”.
