NAWALPARASI, April 2: More than a dozen villages in Nawalparasi are faced with a heightened risk of flood following permission from local authorities in Chitwan to allow mining of construction materials from the Narayani river.
Chitwan's District Development Committee (DDC) has already handed over the contract for the mining of the river. The contractor company has already started extraction of river-based sources resulting in the diversion of Narayani river's natural course westward which has created unprecedented risk to a dozen villages.
Gaindakot, Pithauli, Rajhar Agrauli, Kumarwarti, Narayani, Triveni Susta, Narsahi, Kudiya, Guthi, Suryapura, Mukundapur, Amarapuri, Dibyapuri, Pragatinagar, Kawasoti, Koluwa and Paklihawa are some of the villages in risk of getting cut off and flooded.
Local villager, Ganga Pandey, said the villagers affected by the river mining have registered complaints with government offices demanding action against the contractor and DDC Chitwan, and to force the reversion of the river's diverted course to its previous course. RSS
