RJPN cadres beat up 3 polling officers, vandalize vehicles

BARA, June 13: Assailants of the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal in Bara beat up three polling officers in front of the office of the party on Monday, according to police. The polling officers were there to make necessary arrangements for the June 28 elections.

BARA, June 13: Assailants of the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal in Bara beat up three polling officers in front of the office of the party on Monday, according to police. The polling officers were there to make necessary arrangements for the June 28 elections.


As informed by Bara Police, poll officers were beaten up in front of the RJPN office at Bharat Chowk, Kalaiya. The election officers were reportedly preparing to return from Kalaiya after completing electoral training when they were attacked. Election officers Bisweshwar Prasad Yadav, Shankar Shrestha and Babu Lal Sahani were those beaten up, according to the District Police Office, Bara.

 Deputy Superintendent of Police Narendra Upreti in Bara informed that RJPN cadres also vandalized two vehicles used for election purpose. He further informed that a cadre of RJPN Pannalal Patel has been arrested in connection with the attack on the election officers and vandalism of the vehicles.


Police said they are investigating the incident. 


With the objective of disrupting the elections, RJPN had announced a four-day banda starting June 13 and has been staging torch processions in various places to enforce the banda. On Sunday, leaders and cadres of RJPN had staged demonstration showing black flags to Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav who had reached Rajbiraj for an interaction on elections.


On the same day, cadres of RJPN tried to disrupt a function organized by the CPN-UML by vandalizing the stage. They even took control of various election materials like t-shirts, pamphlets, caps among other things and torched them. RJPN leaders and cadres have clearly announced that they will do everything possible to disrupt the elections until their demands are addressed. RJPN's attack on poll officers on Monday has created great fear among the locals of the district headquarters Kalaiya.
