CHITWAN, Nov 12: Traffic along the Narayangadh-Mugling road section will affect with hiatus from today until further notified. While construction works in the past forced complete closure during maintenance, this time, vehicles will pass on a timely basis during construction.

“We will see traffic conditions and hold vehicles in intervals,” engineer and Information Officer, Shiva Khanal of the road section said. Each halt would last for around 1.5 hours, he said. On Saturday, the road section was shut down throughout the day to clear rocks that posed risk on the highway.

The Narayanghat-Muglin road connects Kathmandu to majority of the districts in the east and the west. Around 10,000 vehicles pass the road section every day. The road is also being upgraded to 11-meter width to meet Asian standard.

The road expansion initiative, which started in April 2015 was expected to complete in two years. However, only 60 percent of the work has been completed so far, Khanal said.

“We are yet to demolish a major rock length of 800 meters. That is why we had to obstruct the road,” he added. The halts have been stationed at Bhateri jungle, midpoint of Gaighat-Kerabari, Simlatal-bhalu Dhunga and Muglin.

The Narayanghat-Muglin road is 36 kilometers long. So far, 33 km road has been expanded.
