KATHMANDU, Aug 13: The sequence of events surrounding the arrest and subsequent release of Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Dr. Sunil Sharma has sparked widespread controversy and debate.
According to Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Prasad Lingden, this has posed a pertinent query: ‘Why was Dr. Sunil Sharma released merely a day after his arrest?’

He made such remarks on the occasion of the 34th International Youth Day following a blood donation drive at the party's central office in Dhumbarahi.
Lingden alleged that the arrest of Sharma, a member of the ruling party, came as a response to his critical inquiries and calls for the resignation of ruling party ministers. Chairman Lingden emphasized the need for a comprehensive discussion not only about Dr. Sharma's release but also the detainment of other medical professionals.
He remarked, "The case involving the arrest of Dr. Sunil Sharma had seemingly reached its conclusion. Why was its execution delayed until now? Despite being a member of the ruling party, Dr. Sharma openly questioned government ministers, shedding light on issues of gold smuggling and corruption. The circumstances leading to Sharma's apprehension, subsequent release, and the continued detention of others demand a closer examination and discourse."
Chairman Lingden further underlined that the RPP places less emphasis on attaining power and more on principled governance. He encouraged the Nepali youth to actively engage in the political process, urging them to assume an interventionist role rather than dismissing politics as inconsequential.
