KATHMANDU, August 6: Nepali Congress (NC) Central Working Committee member Dr Shashank Koirala has said that electoral alliance among ruling coalition parties is necessary in the upcoming parliamentary and provincial elections to safeguard the constitution.

Speaking with media personnel today at Kathmandu, Koirala said that even though NC could contest the elections alone, it had to coordinate with other parties for the protection of the constitution, development and stability of the country.

“The government also belongs to the coalition. It is easier to go to the election from the coalition,” he said, while saying that the NC should get 100 seats in the upcoming elections.

Koirala added that it is not possible to say what will happen in the electoral alliance. “To compete with UML, we have to be one,” he said. “In the current situation, each party will seek to coordinate with some other parties in the elections.”
