KATHMANDU, August 15: The top leaders of the ruling coalition have requested Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to take necessary initiatives for the management of the waste in the Kathmandu Valley.

At a time when the Valley is becoming smelly due to non-collection of garbage, the top leaders of the five parties in the ruling coalition held a meeting in Baluwatar on Sunday afternoon, suggesting that the government should focus on waste management and price control. They suggested Prime Minister Deuba consult with other local units including Kathmandu Metropolitan City for waste management.

Government Spokesperson and Communications Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said that since there has been no waste management in the valley for a few days, he suggested the government take necessary steps for its proper management. Informing that the alliance has also suggested to the government to make monitoring more efficient and effective in controlling inflation, Karki said that the parties affiliated to the alliance have asked the government not to sit back and watch as any disease can spread due to garbage.

Likewise, the ruling parties, which agreed to coordinate with each other in the province and House of Representatives elections to be held on November 20, also got information about the discussions going on within the 11-member working group regarding seat distribution. In the meeting, the leaders said that although there was a discussion about the desire of Mahantha Thakur's Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) to join the government through alliance, no decision was reached.
