KATHMANDU, June 19: Stakeholders including the kin of those disappeared and authorities mandated to deal with the conflict-era cases have alleged that the negligence by the ruling leaders has delayed the peoples’ right to know the whereabouts of their missing relatives.
Kin of those disappeared during the Maoist insurgency questioned the intent of the politicians whereas the members of the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP) blamed the government for not providing adequate human resource and funding to complete the given mandate of investigating the disappearance cases and booking the guilty.

Speaking at a function organized in Kathmandu Monday, CIEDP chief Lokendra Mallik said, “We have not been able to work as efficiently as we had thought due to the negligence on the part of the government in providing necessary vehicles, funds and human resources, and in making necessary laws,” Mallik said, adding, “Some of the cases are in their final stage but there are no laws that say how to prosecute the guilty.”
At the same function, member of the National Human Rights Commission Mohana Ansari said that the insurgency period cannot be said to be over until justice is served to the victims.
