KALIKOT, Nov 7: The people in the rural areas of Kalikot district have complained of weak security. While the urban areas enjoy stable peace and good security measures, the situation is not the same in the villages, according to the locals who shared their concerns at a police-citizen interaction held in the district headquarters Manma on Tuesday.
According to them, difficult topography poses a strong threat to security as the security bodies cannot keep a close eye on their settlements. Kalikot, which has nine local units, does not have sufficient number of police personnel.
Security situation worsening in Mahottari
The local entrepreneurs have constantly been complaining of security threats. Some of them packaging and selling home-brewed liquor after paying taxes, said some groups have been seizing their products time and again due to the lack of security.
Jeevan Shahi, an entrepreneur from Manma Bazaar, said many groups have been troubling him, hindering his business. “For example, the Biplav-led political group seizes the alcoholic drink we bring from Surkeht and Nepalgunj. The security is not good enough to prevent such incidents,” he said.
The entrepreneurs said the government should either scrap their license to sell alcohol or make effort to prevent such incidents.
However, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mahesh Bikram Shah, chief of Karnali Province Police, said the security situation in the province is strong and stable. He claimed that none of the ten districts in Karnali has experienced any big incident caused by security lapse.
“We also need support from the general public as we cannot do anything without their help. Both residents and security bodies have to move forward hand-in-hand for crime-free communities,” he said, addressing the program.
