Bir Hospital Director Dr Paudel knocks on SC’s doors

KATHMANDU, Dec 6: Dr Santosh Paudel, a director of Bir Hospital, has filed a case at the Supreme Court (SC) for legal action after being removed from the post. A letter was sent to Director Paudel to appear at the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) from December 1 on the instructions of Health and Population Minister Mohan Bahadur Basnet.

KATHMANDU, Dec 6: Dr Santosh Paudel, a director of Bir Hospital, has filed a case at the Supreme Court (SC) for legal action after being removed from the post. A letter was sent to Director Paudel to appear at the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) from December 1 on the instructions of Health and Population Minister Mohan Bahadur Basnet.


After sending the letter to him, Shrawan Kumar Thapa has been given the responsibility as acting Director of Bir Hospital. A hearing on the case filed by Dr Paudel at the SC is scheduled for December 7. Dr Paudel was removed from his position and transferred to the ministerial level.

Paudel has been asked to appear at the ministry along with the letters of affiliation to political parties and people’s organizations. Dr Paudel was appointed by the Nepal Medical Council as the director of Bir Hospital for a two-year term in mid-February, 2023.


Jageshwar Paudel, chairman of the Nepal Medical Council, said that Dr Santosh Paudel had to seek legal remedies because he was removed from his position without being given an opportunity to provide an explanation.
