SAG medal winners Shakya and Basnet honoured

KATHMANDU, Dec 27: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Ward No 31 honoured SAG gold medalist, Ayasha Shakya and the winner of a silver medal Ashish Basnet, amidst a program here today.

KATHMANDU, Dec 27: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Ward No 31 honoured SAG gold medalist, Ayasha Shakya and the winner of a silver medal Ashish Basnet, amidst a program here today.


 Shakya had won two gold medals in Taekwondo's ‘single pumsae’ and ‘a pair’ categories in the above 29 years age group, while Basnet secured the silver through basketball in the regional event that Nepal hosted, on December 1-10. Shakya was awarded Rs 50,000 and Ashis was honored with a cash prize of Rs 25,000.

Taekwondo coach Deepak Bista, Karate coach Tulasi Maharjan, Basketball coach Niranjan Satyal and Badminton's Kiran Thapa were also felicitated on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, State Assembly member Ganesh Dulal said he felt pleased to witness the honor of players while ward chair Narayan Bhandari said sports promotion was the priority of the local government as it helped build a healthy society.


Medal winners Shakya and Basnet said they were encouraged by the honor. Nepal won 51 gold medals in the recently concluded South Asian Games.
