Sajha launches electric buses

KATHMANDU, Oct 24: Sajha Yatyayat on Tuesday started the operation of two electric zero-emission buses in Kathmandu in line with its vision to control increasing air pollution and promote mass transportation in the Valley.

KATHMANDU, Oct 24: Sajha Yatyayat on Tuesday started the operation of two electric zero-emission buses in Kathmandu in line with its vision to control increasing air pollution and promote mass transportation in the Valley. 


Since the buses are emission-free they have also been dubbed ‘The new green mobility experience’ by the transport operator.

While the two buses have already reached Kathmandu three more are due to arrive in Kathmandu soon. According to the Chief Executive Officer of Sajha Yatayat Mahendra Raj Pandeya, the buses were bought by the Lumbini Development Trust through the Asian Development Bank at  the cost of Rs 20 million each.


Pandeya added that the buses will be operated in the Valley until the under-construction Gautam Budhha International Airport comes into operation and after that they will be operated in Lumbini. The buses have 20 seats each.


The buses were launched by Prime Minister KP Oli amid a function at Harihar Bhawan, Pulchowk. Prime Minister Oli along with Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari, Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Bidya Sundar Shakya and Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City Chiri Babu Maharjan all traveled in the bus from Sajha’s head office at Pulchowk to Singha Durbar.
