KATHMANDU, Oct 1: The man who allegedly raped and murdered 12-year-old Samjhana Kami in Bajhang district has confessed to the crime eight days after the incident, police said. Rajendra Bohora who was arrested on the charge of raping and killing Samjhana has reportedly told the police that he dragged the minor to a temple, raped her and killed her by using a trident and a hammer.
"He has confessed to the crime. He killed her using a trident and a hammer," said Senior Superintendent of Police, Mukesh Singh, acting chief of Sudur Paschim Provincial Police Office.

Meanwhile, the home ministry has announced to provide relief of Rs 1 million to the bereaved family. According to acting chief district officer of Bajhang, Ram Bahadur Sarki, Sudur Paschim Provincial government, too, has been discussing to provide some relief package to the victim’s family.
The incident that took place in Masta Rural Municipality-2 of Bajhang district on 23 September has fueled protests across the country. The protestors have been demanding capital punishment for rapists of minors. Several groups of protestors gathered at Maitaghar Mandala of Kathmandu to draw the attention of the government to the issue of rape and murder of minors. Samjhana's dead body was buried by the family on Tuesday after the police publicized Bohora as the criminal. Samjhana was a sixth grader.
