Sandeep Lamichhane suspended from Nepal’s National Cricket Team

KATHMANDU, Sept 8: Things have gone only from bad to worse for Sandeep Lamichhane, the skipper of the Nepali national cricket team as the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has suspended him from the national squad following the issuance of an arrest warrant against him.

KATHMANDU, Sept 8: Things have gone only from bad to worse for Sandeep Lamichhane, the skipper of the Nepali national cricket team as the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has suspended him from the national squad following the issuance of an arrest warrant against him. 


Issuing a press statement on Thursday evening, acting secretary of CAN, Prashant Bikram Malla said that the decision was taken after an arrest warrant was issued against Lamichhane on the charge of raping a minor girl. The decision came hours after the Kathmandu District Court issued the arrest warrant against Lamichhane, as demanded by the police who are investigating the rape cahrge.

Earlier, a minor girl had filed a complaint against Lamichhane accusing him of rape. The police had asked the court to grant permission to arrest Lamichhane for investigation.


Lamichhane is currently in the West Indies to play in the Caribbean Premier League. After the T20 series against Kenya, Sandeep reached the West Indies from there. According to CAN, Lamichhane has denied the rape accusation and requested the national cricketing body for legal assistance.
