Looking back at Sandeep's two years

KATHMANDU, April 16: On this day at the age of 15, Sandeep Lamichhane made his debut as a cricketer for Nepal national team against Namibia in the 2015-17 ICC World Cricket League Championship.


Now, it has been two years and within a short interval, he has made a history in Nepali cricket after becoming the first Nepali cricketer to be selected in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).  


Born on 2nd August, 2000 in Syangja, a right-handed leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane idolizes Sane Warne and Sachin Tendulkar in cricket. With the under 19 national squad, he took a hat-trick in the second match against Ireland in U-19 cricket world cup.


He became the fifth bowler to take hat-trick in the U-19 world cup history. He was also invited by former Australian skipper Michael Clarke to play at the Sydney- based Western Suburbs District Cricket Club in September 2016.

Today, expressing his delights, Sandip lamichhane wrote on his twitter: "2 Years completed!! The day when i first played for Nepal. Still a long way to go. Thanks to each and everyone for your immense love. Its been an amazing journey so far. Lots of love to all. Keep supporting Nepali Cricket. Jai Nepal"

January 30, 2016: First hat-trick and 5-wicket-haul vs Ireland U-19 (First Player-of-the-Match award) in ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup in Bangaldesh.


April 16, 2016: List-A debut vs Namibia April 16, 2016, First List-A wicket: Pikky Ya France (Finished with 10-2-37-2 bowling figures) in ICC World Cricket League Championship 2015-17 in TU Ground, Kirtipur, Nepal.

September 24, 2016: Played for Western Suburbs Districts Cricket Club in Australia after an official call up by Michael Clarke in Sydney grade cricket 2016/17 season.

December 6, 2016: Sandeep Lamichhane named captain of Nepal U-19 team for Youth Asia Cup held at Sri Lanka.

July 25, 2017: Made new Nepali record for Most Wickets in an International Tournament (24 wickets in 6 matches) ICC U-19 World Cup Asia Qualifiers in Malaysia.

January 28, 2018: Bought by Indian Premier League outfit Delhi Daredevils on base price IRs 2 Million (NRs 3.2 Million) in Banglore, India.

February 12, 2018: Picked up his first 5-wicket-haul for Nepal senior team (List-A cricket) against Kenya in ICC World  ricket League Division Two in Windhoek, Namibia. Registered bowling figures of 10-5-20-5. 

February 15, 2018: Awarded Player-of-the-Series in ICC World Cricket League Division Two finishing with 14 wickets in 6 matches in Windhoek, Namibia.

March 2, 2018: Drafted in by Caribbean Premier League (CPL) team St. Kitts and Nevis for USD 5000 (NRs 521650) in London, England.
