KATHMANDU, May 28: Senior Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel has termed the decision of the Supreme Court (SC) to overturn government's decision to build Nijgadh International Airport as an irrational decision.

Senior leader Poudel alleged that some irrational decisions made by the court had hampered the development of the country and the decision of the SC regarding Nijgadh Airport was an example of that. He said that the court should reconsider its decision to stop the construction of Nijgadh airport.

Poudel said that the best alternative to Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) would be Nijgadh Airport and the problem of air traffic in Kathmandu would be solved only after the construction of Nijgadh Airport.

Poudel mentioned that the government has already spent billions of rupees for the construction of Nijgadh Airport and at the same time an expressway connecting Kathmandu with Madhesh is being built due to which the airport is the best alternative to TIA.

He also clarified that he has already observed the airport and there is no need to destroy the environment there as of now. He accused some bureaucrats of manipulating the construction of airports in the name of environmental degradation.
