KATHMANDU, Oct 10: The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday ordered the government to show cause for dismissing the chairman and general manager of Sajha Prakashan, Dolindra Prasad Sharma.

Encouraged by the SC order on October 8 to reinstate the sacked chief of Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), Gopal Khadka, Sharma filed a writ petition at the apex court the same day, seeking the reversal of his dismissal by the government before the completion of his extended tenure.

Responding to the writ petition, a single bench of Justice Deepak Raj Joshi, however, did not issue an interim order on the case, according to the Ministry of Education (MoE). The SC has scheduled another hearing to decide whether to issue an interim order.

The MoE had sacked Sharma from the posts of chairman and general manager of the Sajha Prakashan on September 24 for his alleged involvement in several irregularities.

Unsatisfied with his first clarification, the MoE had sought second clarification from Sharma asking him 'why not to sack you' on September 12. Earlier, a meeting held on September 4 had decided to seek the clarification from Sharma on the basis of the report prepared by the ministry regarding irregularities in Sajha Prakashan.

Sharma was accused of appointing those close to political leaders and media persons, not carrying out audit after his appointment at Sajha, not maintaining records of annual incomes and book publications, allowing private publishers to use Sajha logo, transferring   Rs 5 million from Sajha to the GM's account, and also serving as chairman against the rules.
