KATHMANDU, Sept 14: The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the government decision that allowed the plotting of arable lands until the next decision of the apex court.

A single bench of Justice Sushmalata Mathema stayed the September 3 decision of the cabinet that lifted its earlier directive to prohibit plotting of arable land.

The bench has also summoned the government authorities—the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Land Reforms and Management—to attend the apex court on September 24 to discuss on whether or not to continue the stay order.

Challenging the decision of the government, a writ petition was filed at the Supreme Court on September 13 seeking its order to annul the cabinet decision that violates Section 8 of Act Relating to the Use of Land, 2019 as the provision prevents using any category of land for other purposes.
