ILAM, Dec 30: Schools that remained closed due to the pandemic are opening up; they shut their operation nine months ago.
The schools are under pressure to complete the curriculum on time. Though some schools had opted to resume their activities immediately after Tihar, it could not last long with the fear that the coronavirus had reached out to community level.
Breaking barriers: A public school setting an example
Lately, the schools came into operation as per the directive of the local level. Schools adopted different teaching systems to carry out teaching and learning. But these measures were not effective as all the students did not have access to the Internet.
There was no alternative to return to the school teaching system, shared chief of the Ilam district education and coordination unit, Shambhu Thapa.
The schools had adopted different measures such as community tuition class, FM/radio class and zoom classes but the results were not satisfactory.
Two local levels – Ilam municipality and Suryodaya municipality-- adopted radio learning systems during pandemic. Some local levels chose corner teaching systems. There is still confusion about resuming physical operation of schools, Thapa said, adding there was weaknesses on part of the local level to effectively put in place alternative education systems.
