Security bodies directed to initiate preparations for midterm elections

KATHMANDU, Jan 12: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has directed all security bodies to commence preparations for holding midterm elections scheduled for April 30 and May 10.

KATHMANDU, Jan 12: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has directed all security bodies to commence preparations for holding midterm elections scheduled for April 30 and May 10.


Stating that the government is determined to hold the elections within the stipulated dates, the home ministry directed all security bodies to begin their preparations accordingly on Monday.

However, the case of dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) is still sub-judice at the Supreme Court.


Earlier on Monday, the Puspha Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal led-faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) had asked the Election Commission to stop preparations being made for the election. The poll body, however, has refused to stop the ongoing preparations.


Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel also directed the security bodies to submit a proposal for budget to the Ministry of Finance through the Ministry of Home Affairs. Minister Paudel also vowed to avoid any financial problems to make necessary preparations to successfully hold the elections.
