KATHMANDU, Sept 5: National Independent Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane has demanded “unconditional and immediate release” of Sherjung Gurung, the security guard who is in police custody for asking Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Jeevan Ram Shrestha to stand in line. Lamichhane went to meet Gurung on Monday morning.
Lamichhane demanded an investigation into the charge of disobeying the law against Minister Shrestha, who violated the rules and refused to stay in line. Lamichhane said that Gurung told him that he was innocent and had not misbehaved with the minister.

Lamichhane wrote on social media, “I have met Sherjung Gurung, who is in police custody, and thanked him. Law is equal to all. Sherjung says : ‘I may have raised my voice a bit, but I have not misbehaved. I didn't even know he was a minister.’ Even if he knew, he had to fulfill his duty. If his statement is true, he should not be imprisoned but released with honor. The minister who breaks the rules and does not stand in line should be investigated for disobeying the law.”
On Friday, Minister Shrestha had reached the Chhaya Center in Thamel for biometric work. Sherjung Gurung, the security guard there, asked everyone to stand in line. However, Minister Shrestha claimed that the incident did not happen because he did not stand in line, but because he and his personal security officer (PSO) were misbehaved.
