KATHMANDU, Dec 2: Senior leader of Nepali Congress(NC) Ram Chandra Paudel and other NC leaders have been released after three hours in police control.
Police had arrested senior leader Paudel, NC Provincial Assembly member Sarita Gurung and Acting President of NC District Committee, Tanahu Jit Prakash Ale were arrested on a charge of violating prohibitory order issued by the local administration. They were released in the presence of the Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Tanahu, Shanti Baran Wagle.

Senior leader Paudel and other NC leaders were arrested when they reached to attend the inauguration ceremony of Buldi Khola Bridge in Byas Municipality in Tanahu district. Local NC leaders had staged a demonstration outside police office and briefly obstructed vehicular movement along Prithivi Highway protesting against the arrest.
Earlier, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba had denounced the arrest of Paudel. Deuba said that the arrest of Paudel was an indication of totalitarianism. The NC had warned of stringent protests across the country if Paudel was not released immediately.
