Seven arrested for falsifying educational certificates to enroll in MBBS program

KATHMANDU, Aug 19: In a recent operation led by the Central Investigation Bureau of the Nepal Police aimed at curbing the proliferation of counterfeit educational credentials, seven individuals were taken into custody. The suspects were publicized on Friday evening, as they stand accused of fabricating their educational qualifications to gain admission into MBBS courses.

KATHMANDU, Aug 19: In a recent operation led by the Central Investigation Bureau of the Nepal Police aimed at curbing the proliferation of counterfeit educational credentials, seven individuals were taken into custody. The suspects were publicized on Friday evening, as they stand accused of fabricating their educational qualifications to gain admission into MBBS courses.


Manit Chaudhary, a 34-year-old employed at Anu Pharmacy Biratnagar, Amit Chaudhary, aged 34 and working at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital Maharajgunj, Erina Shah, a 29-year-old aspirant preparing for MD studies, Shraddha Shilpkar, 33, working at Isan Children's Hospital Basundhara, Punam Thapa, 28, residing in Kathmandu, Ram Babu Yadav, 32, an employee at Bagmati Hospital Rautahat, and Nasim Akhtar, aged 28 and enrolled at Chitwan Medical College, have been taken into custody.

Superintendent of Police Sanjay Singh Thapa, who is also the CIB spokesperson, stated that the arrests were affected due to the alleged use of fraudulent educational qualifications in their respective job and academic applications. Law enforcement officials communicated with the National Examination Board's Examination Control Office situated in Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, confirming the inauthenticity of the certificates. Subsequent to verification, the suspects were apprehended and subjected to a comprehensive investigation.


Spokesperson Thapa further said that the Kathmandu District Court is overseeing the ongoing investigation, and an extension of five days has been granted for the purpose of delving deeper into the matter.
