Sharp ambition

Altab Hussain, 42, from Kotak of India sharpens metal tools for his living. He is currently living in Bouddha, Kathmandu with his five friends.

Altab Hussain, 42, from Kotak of India sharpens metal tools for his living. He is currently living in Bouddha, Kathmandu with his five friends.


He carries his sharpening equipment and visits several parts of the city every day for his work. He had moved to Nepal 15 years ago. “Though it is easier to work and earn in Nepal, I’d like to live in India because my family is there,” he said. Hussain charges Rs 60 to sharpen any tool, and makes around Rs 1,400-1,500 each day.

He said the income was enough to sustain his lifestyle, and he saved enough to send some money to his family.
