Sherpa missing in Manaslu avalanche, search underway since morning

GORKHA, Oct 3: It has been revealed that the person who went missing in an avalanche in Mt Manaslu located in Chumanuwri Rural Municipality-1 of North Gorkha is Dawa Sherpa from Taplejung.

GORKHA, Oct 3: It has been revealed that the person who went missing in an avalanche in Mt Manaslu located in Chumanuwri Rural Municipality-1 of North Gorkha is Dawa Sherpa from Taplejung.


According to the police, among the four victims of the avalanche that occurred around 3:00 PM on Sunday, Dawa is missing and three others are safe. District Police Office Gorkha SP Kedar Khanal said that search for the missing Sherpa has been started since Monday morning using a helicopter.

While returning from camp II, Sherpa of Seven Summit Pvt Ltd went missing, said Pasang Phurbu Sherpa of that company. The missing Sherpa was searched till evening by Simrik Air helicopter but could not be found. The helicopter was kept at Samagaon in Chumanuwri to begin the search on Monday morning, again.


Before this, a landslide occurred between camp III and IV of Manaslu mountain last Tuesday as well. One person died and 12 were injured in the avalanche.


This is the prime season for climbing Mt Manaslu. More than 1,000 Sherpas and 400 mountaineers have reached Mt Manaslu, known as the Killer Mountain to ascend it.
