KATHMANDU, Sept 25: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) has said that the protesting activists declined to meet him when he called them for talks.

On Monday, through social media, Mayor Shah said that the activists were reluctant to meet him when he called the activists at the protest site to address their concerns.

“For the past few days, activists have been holding protests. I went to the location where they are holding the protest to have a conversation with them and listen to their concerns and problems. However, they were reluctant to join me for a dialogue. We think that in a democratic practice, everything should be resolved through talks; we have understood that they did not come forward for talks perhaps because they are linked to some political interest. Is it necessary to hold talks with their leader?" Mayor Shah has stated.

A group of activists led by Ishan, popularly known as ‘Iih’, have been protesting in front of the City Hall since last Tuesday demanding better management of street vendors in the city.
