KATHMANDU, July 21: Lalit Krishna Shrestha was posthumously conferred the Special Award during Pulsar Sports Award ceremony on Thursday. Shrestha, the then acting president of All Nepal Football Association, was electrocuted on June 12 last year.

Late Shrestha, who was also the president of Three Star Club, was awarded in recognition of his contributions to football. Shrestha, who was projected as the future ANFA president, is credited for scripting new era in Nepali club football by introducing reforms to the traditionally run clubs.

Shrestha's wife Nilu and son Shreyas received the award.

Shrestha was involved in football as an administrator since 1991 and had earned the reputation of the savior of football at times of crisis within ANFA. His friendly nature and moderate line had time and again played key role in solving disputes at the football governing body.

He was elected president of Three Star Club for the first time in 1991 and served at the club in the same capacity for six years. Later, he was again elected the president of Three Star Club in 2002 and retained the same position until he died in 2015. The club had won top-tier domestic league twice under his leadership besides winning numerous knockout tournaments.

Shrestha had entered ANFA in 1995 as a member and then held various positions including the spokesperson, vice president, senior vice president and acting president. He was honored with the AFC Service Award gold in 2013 for his efforts toward the development of football in Nepal.
