SINDHULI, Dec 2: The Sindhuli district is witnessing an unprecedented rise in the registration of cases related to domestic violence.

The Women and Children Service Centre has so far received 20 complaints. In the last fiscal year, there were 79 complaints whereas in just a quarter of the ongoing fiscal year, the centre has received 20 complaints.

The centre – which is subordinate to the District Police Office, Sindhuli – has been running public awareness programmes, but it is receiving more complaints on the incidents of domestic violence from educated families.

There are a wide range of complaints including physical assault, misbehavior, threats and intimidation. Of a total of 10 complaints related to physical assault, five cases have been resolved with reconciliation between the concerned parties; one case was sent to the court whereas legal action has been initiated in four other cases.

In the six cases related to withholding of money needed for running the house and buying food, four cases were resolved through reconciliation while two cases have been referred for necessary legal action, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Subash Chandra Bohara, of District Police Office, Sindhuli.

Last year, 70 cases were resolved through reconciliation while two were sent to the court, police said. In the same period, seven individuals went out of contact after registering the complaints. RSS
