SINDHUPALCHOWK, July 15: National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has added 3,307 earthquake victims as beneficiaries in Sindhupalchwok. The names were added based on its survey conducted in September.
NEA, the responsible body for post-earthquake reconstruction and rehabilitation of quake victims, had conducted the survey in September to verify the complaints that it had received following its announcement that it would accommodate genuine quake victims that were missed in its earlier assessment. NRA official Madhav Jung Karki, who also heads the District Coordination Committee Secretariat, Sindhupalchwok, informed that with addition, number of beneficiaries from the district have reached to 86,971.
Lengthy grants process a big hassle for quake victims
According to the secretariat, 23,954 earthquake victims had filed complaints for re-survey.
Of these 10,228 were evaluated and of them 8,434 were considered eligible quake victims and added to the beneficiary list.
Following the addition, earthquake victims have been entering agreement with the concerned wards for receiving the grant, said Information Officer of the District Coordination Committee Yuga Bahadur Khadka. “They will receive Rs. 50,000 as the first installment of their grant from Sunday,” he said.
562 families to receive grant for retrofitting
The NRA has decided to provide a grant of Rs 100,000 to 562 households in the district to retrofit their houses.
The NRA also provided retrofitting grants to the quake victims, whose houses were partially damaged during the earthquakes. Prior to this, 25 earthquake victims were listed for receiving such grant. Though some of the newly-listed quake families have entered agreement with the authorities for the grants, many others are yet to do so.
