KATHMANDU, Aug 27: Police have arrested six persons on the charge of trafficking Nepali youths promising attractive jobs in Australia.
Acting on a complaint lodged against Shiva Sharma, a team of Anti Human Trafficking Bureau of Nepal Police arrested them in the last week of August. The victims, in their complaint, have accused Sharma and five others of trafficking to Indonesia and leaving stranded them there.
The racket trafficked the youths promising them with lucrative jobs and higher studies in Australia through fake Facebook ID in the Facebook page named "Journey to Australia".

According to the spokesperson at Bureau Superintendent of Police Govinda Thapaliya, the arrestees are Parshattom Lal, Shahi Kumar Tamang aka Shashi Lama and Dolendra Karki who were held on August 20 from Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA), Thamel and Maitighar in Kathmandu. Similarly, Shiva Sharma and Asmira Chaulagain were arrested from TIA and Arjun Karki from Babarmahal respectively.
The applicants had paid Rs.1.5 to 2 million as the visa-processing charge. The traffickers, however, confiscated all the cash and documents including passport and visa and kept them captive inside a rented apartment in association with some Indian nationals in Indonesia for a couple of months.
Nepal Police arrested those Nepali nationals from such a pitiful condition where they were repeatedly tortured physically and mentally. There were deprived of food, rather thrashed regularly.
The bureau informed that it has launched an investigation into the case. The search for those who involved in the trafficking is underway, the bureau stated in a press release.
