Six patients of kalaazar found

PALPA, Aug 13: The number of people suffering from Leishmaniasis – locally known as Kalaazar – is on the rise in the district in the time span of two years.


The bacteria carrying the disease, which time and again erupts into an epidemic in Tarai plains, was found in six persons in Palpa. Last year, Kalaazar was detected in at least three persons.

One and a half years ago, the Kalaazar bacteria were detected in two persons in Rupse and one in Gejha. This year the disease was detected in a person each from Masyan, Dovan, Deurali, Satyawati, Hungi and Pipaldanda.


The Kalaazar patients suffer from symptoms of high fever, black patches on skin and nausea, according to District Health Office Information Official, Madhav Gyawali.


The disease is treated at United Mission Hospital and Lumbini Medical College, according to District Health Office Chief, Dr Uma Shanker Prasad Chaudhary. The disease spreads from the bite of sandflies. RSS
